Call to support research projects on childhood and vulnerability

The Social Observatory of ”la Caixa” Foundation launches a call to support social science research projects that use quantitative survey data on childhood vulnerability factors in Portugal.

Each selected project will receive up to 30,000 euros (including applicable taxes).

The call will be open from 15 March to 5 April 2023.

In order to overcome the administrative obstacles derived to from the holiday period, the deadline for submitting applications in extended until April 12.

WE ARE SEEKING:

  • Original, quantitative-based research projects on topics of particular relevance in today’s socio-economic context.

  • Proposals that examine today’s challenges related to situations of vulnerability in childhood, accepting as objects of study all types of vulnerability situations and all age ranges of the subjects of study.

  • Without this list being exclusive, the following types of situations associated with childhood (defined as the life period between 0 and 16 years of age) will be admitted as objects of study:

    • Factors impeding the development of life skills required for the integration and autonomy of a person.

    • Factors impeding social and educational development, or undermine opportunities in this respect.

    • Factors leading to situations of child poverty.

    • The undermining of children’s rights.

    • Factors placing the person at risk of being harmed, abused, persecuted, discriminated against, undermined or negatively influenced by hostile actors against whom he/she is inferior, helpless or fragile.

    • Subjective factors of vulnerability (fear, uncertainty, sense of insecurity, loss of self-esteem and confidence in one’s own capacities, feeling of vulnerability to present and future threats and so on).

    • Objective factors of vulnerability (labour market developments, cuts in social protection resources, public insecurity, environmental damage, social climate and so on).

    • Dynamic combination of these or other factors influencing vulnerability.

    • Social groups at special risk of vulnerability.

 

 WE ARE OFFERING:

  • Up to 30,000 euros per project. 

 

 

WE ARE ASKING FOR:

  • The university or research centre receiving the grant must sign a research agreement with the ”la Caixa” Foundation.

  • The research must be carried out within 12 months of the grant being awarded.

  • The quantitative surveys must be contracted as professional services and comply with all methodological guarantees.

 

WHO CAN APPLY:

  • The call is open to proposals led by researchers of any nationality conducting their activity in universities, research centres or private non-profit organisations dedicated to research and based in Portugal.

 



DEADLINE:

  • Application deadline: The proposals can be submitted until 1 pm (UTC) on 5 April 2022.

  • The proposals must be submitted through the online platform provided for this purpose  (http://grants.lacaixafoundation.org/). Applications received through other channels will not be accepted. 

  • The decision will be posted on the Social Observatory website approximately 6 weeks following the deadline for the submission of applications. Successful applicants will be notified by email before that date.
